To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark and the 40th anniversary of the bilateral government agreement on science and technology cooperation, China's Ministry of Science and Technology and Denmark's Ministry of Higher Education and Science held the "China-Denmark Green Research & Innovation Day" in Copenhagen and Beijing on May 19.

Scientific and technological innovation cooperation constitutes a crucial part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, Yin Hejun, Chinese minister of science and technology, said at the opening ceremony. Guided by the strategic leadership of the heads of the two states, cooperation in science and technology has deepened continuously with fruitful outcomes.

Highlighting the vast potential in green innovation collaboration, he expressed China's commitment to its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and a strong willingness to strengthen practical cooperation with Denmark in green sectors. This includes enhancing personnel exchanges, joint research and development, and technology transfer.

He called the event a collaborative platform for innovation stakeholders from both countries, and hoped they would contribute to global sustainable development through policy dialogue, technology matching and industrial cooperation.

Christina Egelund, Danish minister for higher education and science, praised the achievements of China-Denmark cooperation in science and technology, and called technological innovation a vital pillar of the bilateral relations.

She affirmed Denmark's commitment to jointly implement the China-Denmark Green Joint Work Program (2023-2026) and the Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Research and Innovation Cooperation signed between the two ministries in January 2025.

Egelund also stressed the importance of collaboration in shared interest areas to jointly address global challenges, promote green transition, and advance sustainable development goals including global health.

Wang Xuefeng, the Chinese ambassador to Denmark, and other dignitaries also attended the event.

Some activities were concurrently held in Copenhagen and Beijing, such as the China-Denmark Cooperation Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation, Green Technology Matchmaking Conference, Green Development Forum, Industrial Park Cooperation Forum, and Youth Exchange Forum.
