The 1st International Symposium on Non-Equilibrium Transport Phenomena (NETP) focusing on frontier topics in the study and application of non-equilibrium transport phenomena was held in Beijing from April 7 to 10.

It was attended by more than 220 experts in various fields, such as engineering, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry and materials science, from 14 countries and regions.

It is a new platform to exchange knowledge on the latest developments, research findings, and applications related to non-equilibrium transport phenomena associated with fluid flows, said Zhang Yonghao, research professor of the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-chair of the symposium.

These phenomena include non-equilibrium interfacial dynamics, aerothermodynamics, surface confined nanoscale transport phenomena, transport of fine particulates, and particle transport in rarefied fluid flows.

The symposium was organized by the Institute of Mechanics and the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and hosted by the State Key Laboratory of High Temperature Gas Dynamics and the Beijing International Center for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.

The 2nd International Symposium on NETP is expected to be held in Hong Kong next year, according to Zhang, who added that other cities, both domestic and international, are welcome to host it in the future.
