An Implementation Plan for the Upgraded Version of "5G+ Industrial Internet" 512 Project, to drive the integration of 5G technology into industrial applications and promote innovative development in this critical area, was recently issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

By 2027, the plan aims for "5G+ Industrial Internet" to achieve widespread adoption across key industries, with significant advancements in network infrastructure, technological products, integrated applications, industrial ecosystems and public services. The plan targets the construction of 10,000 5G factories and at least 20 pilot cities.

"5G+Industrial Internet" has entered a new phase of large-scale development. On the one hand, the development of "5G+ Industrial Internet" faces the challenge of insufficient industrial supply and high costs for comprehensive application. On the other hand, the implementation of 5G-A technology is speeding up, artificial intelligence is accelerating new industrialization, and the exploration for an industrial 5G independent private network is more active, bringing new opportunities for the development of "5G+Industrial Internet," according to MIIT.

There are several key initiatives in the newly issued plan. The plan emphasizes accelerating the deployment and application of industrial 5G virtual and hybrid private networks to meet the extensive needs of industries such as raw materials, equipment manufacturing, consumer goods and electronics, as well as key sectors like mining, ports and power. It also supports pilot projects for independent 5G private networks in large enterprises and specialized industries.

To upgrade technological products and enhance industry supply capabilities, the plan prioritizes breakthroughs in 5G-A core technologies, including deterministic networking, industrial computing power, and open automation. It also aims to establish a comprehensive standardization system for the "5G+ Industrial Internet."

The plan calls for the accelerated large-scale promotion of typical "5G+ Industrial Internet" application scenarios, with a focus on expanding their adoption across various industrial sectors. This includes the development of pilot cities to showcase the integration and application of "5G+ Industrial Internet."

Moreover, the plan seeks to expand the number of solution providers and integration service suppliers, foster new industrial network solution providers, and cultivate a tiered ecosystem of specialized and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, high-tech companies, and "little giant" enterprises.
